The Canadian Armed Forces plans to invest $18 billion in acquiring a mixed fleet of four types of military helicopters to enhance support for the army, alongside the existing CH-147F Chinooks. This new strategy aims to restore a balanced fleet concept, with the first helicopters expected to serve Canadian Special Operations by 2033, and full operational capabilities for other fleets by 2038. Currently, only 82 of the original 100 CH-146 Griffons remain, as they continue to fulfill various roles until the new helicopters are delivered. The procurement process, however, is anticipated to face delays typical of major military acquisitions.
