On the first day of an immigration crackdown, President Trump expressed his disdain for Somali migrants, particularly criticizing Minnesota’s Somali community and Democratic Representative Ilhan Omar. This anti-migrant sentiment is not unique to the U.S.; Denmark has adopted similar restrictive policies, while the UK’s Labour government is also hardening its immigration stance amid rising far-right pressures. Globally, xenophobia is escalating, with severe abuses against migrants in Libya and violence against Black migrants in Tunisia. Such trends illustrate a widespread shift towards anti-migrant governance across various nations.
