Amnesty International warns fossil fuel infrastructure is a ‘major source of human rights violations’ around the world.
Amnesty International’s recent report highlights the dangers of expanding fossil fuel infrastructure, which threatens billions of lives and is linked to health issues and human rights abuses, particularly against Indigenous communities. Approximately 2 billion people live near these sites, and over 3,500 new projects are in development. The report, presented at COP30, calls for an urgent phase-out of fossil fuels, emphasizing their role in the climate crisis and historical human rights violations. With over 80% of people supporting stronger climate action, the report urges world leaders to prioritize addressing this critical issue.
