More than 100 female professional footballers from 24 countries have called on FIFA to end its sponsorship deal with Saudi oil giant Aramco, citing human rights issues, LGBTQ+ community treatment, and environmental concerns. The players, including Vivianne Miedema and Becky Sauerbrunn, argue that the sponsorship is detrimental to women’s football and goes against the sport’s values. Despite FIFA’s response valuing the partnership, the players urge for reconsideration and propose the establishment of a review committee for future sponsorships aligning with gender equality, human rights, and the planet’s safety.
