Why Australians now need to pay a fee to enter the UK

A new Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) is now required for Australians traveling to the UK, costing £10 and valid for multiple trips over two years. The application must be approved before boarding a flight, processed within hours, and aims to prevent abuse of the immigration system. From May 1, 2025, Australians traveling to Europe’s Schengen Area will also need to apply for an ETIAS visa waiver, requiring an online form and a €7 fee for up to three years.
