Ukraine’s transferred children should not be used as bargaining chips

Over four years since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, more than 20,000 Ukrainian children have been forcibly transferred to Russia under the guise of humanitarian evacuations. International humanitarian law prohibits such actions without parental consent, and recent investigations have classified these transfers as crimes against humanity. Efforts by Ukraine, NGOs, and international bodies have led to the return of over 2,000 children, but many remain unaccounted for amid ongoing legal and diplomatic challenges.
