German Galushchenko, Ukraine’s former energy minister, was detained by the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) while attempting to leave the country amid a significant corruption scandal linked to a $100 million money-laundering scheme. Galushchenko’s arrest is part of the ongoing “Midas” investigation, which also implicated other officials, including President Zelenskyy’s allies. He is accused of facilitating illicit financial activities in the energy sector, where contractors allegedly paid bribes to secure contracts. This crackdown on corruption is crucial for Ukraine’s ambition to join the European Union.
