Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has offered to create demilitarised zones in the Donbas region controlled by his troops, in exchange for Russia keeping its soldiers out. This is part of a 20-point peace plan backed by the US, which also includes proposals for a second DMZ near the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant. The plan addresses issues like Ukraine’s NATO membership, territorial concessions, elections, and governance of the proposed DMZs. Russia has not yet responded to the plan, which aims to de-escalate the conflict and establish peace in Ukraine.
