Another truck has struck an overpass in Metro Vancouver.

On Tuesday, a truck heading southbound on Highway 99 into the George Massey Tunnel hit an overpass at around 10 a.m., the sixth such strike in B.C. this year.

A video posted on social media appeared to show some material on top of a container carried by the truck hitting the overpass, scattering debris and dust onto the road.

The transportation ministry said it is aware of the incident. The Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement Branch was called to the scene and is investigating.

There were no reports of injury or critical damage to the structure, said the ministry. It did not name the trucking company involved.

The overpass strike comes a day after a small delivery truck hit a pedestrian overpass in Stanley Park in Vancouver.

Earlier this month, the provincial government introduced stiffer penalties for commercial truck drivers with oversized loads that hit provincial infrastructure such as overpasses and bridges.

Offenders could get fined up to $100,000 and face jail time of up to 18 months.

There have been 35 commercial truck strikes of overpasses and bridges since the end of 2021, according to data by the B.C. transportation ministry.

So far this year, there have been five recorded strikes in B.C., not including Tuesday’s strike near the George Massey Tunnel.

Three of the incidents occurred in January in Metro Vancouver — on Highway 1 in Chilliwack, Highway 99 at the George Massey Tunnel, and on Highway 1 in Burnaby when a helicopter being transported by a truck hit a sign on the Gilmore overpass. All were attributed to driver error.
