More than 8,600 residents in the Coromandel and Western Bay of Plenty areas are without electricity due to storm damage that initially affected nearly 13,500 homes. Powerco has advised that customers should prepare for extended outages overnight, as the storm caused significant damage to power lines and poles from falling trees.
