Canterbury, Banks Peninsula, and Dunedin are facing heavy rain, providing a respite for North Island residents. MetService meteorologist Alannah Burrows indicated that widespread rainfall, with heavier outbreaks, is expected, particularly in exposed areas. A severe weather warning is in place for Banks Peninsula, forecasting 120-180mm of rain until 6pm. The focus of the heavy rain is shifting southwards as conditions improve in the central North Island.
