Thousands protest in Haiti to denounce a surge in gang violence and demand security

In Port-au-Prince, Haiti, thousands of protesters clashed with police over a surge in gang violence, demanding government protection. Demonstrators armed with machetes and tree branches blocked roads, calling for the removal of the prime minister and the presidential council’s office to be burned down. Gang violence has forced over 60,000 people to flee their homes, with the U.N. reporting more than 4,200 deaths in Haiti from July to February.
