In the early weeks of the campaign, Liberal incumbent Helena Jaczek observed that voters favored Mark Carney for his perceived ability to handle U.S. President Donald Trump; however, as the election progressed, sentiments shifted toward seeking change from the Liberals. Despite Jaczek’s re-election in Markham—Stouffville, many of her Liberal colleagues in York region were defeated by Conservatives, reflecting a broader trend of Liberal losses in Ontario, including significant defeats in the Toronto area. Ultimately, the Liberals won 69 seats with 49% of the popular vote, while the Conservatives gained seats to reach 53, indicating a decline in Liberal support in key regions.
