Swimmers seek the heat in wet summer

Canterbury swimmers are favoring Methven’s hot pools over outdoor pools due to the cold, wet summer, with Ōpuke Thermal Pools and Spa experiencing a significant increase in visitor numbers, surpassing 100,000 in the first year since opening. The closure of Ashburton’s indoor pool has further boosted Methven hot pools’ popularity, while other outdoor pools in Selwyn District are seeing a decrease in attendance, with a new point of sale system being implemented. Despite a drop in revenue at Splash Planet in Hastings, Mid Canterbury is managing well with planned maintenance closures and scheduled re-opening dates.
