At least 13 people died and nearly 100 were injured when a train derailed in southern Mexico’s Oaxaca state on December 28, 2025, while carrying about 250 passengers. The Mexican Navy launched a major search and rescue operation, deploying 360 personnel and various equipment. Authorities reported that 139 individuals are safe, with 93 injured, including five seriously hurt. An investigation is underway, and former president Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador’s interoceanic train project aims to modernize trade routes in the region.
