‘Surge of weapons’: How much Ukraine aid did Biden approve after Trump win?

President Joe Biden has asked the Department of Defense to expedite weapons deliveries to Ukraine following a Christmas Day attack by Russia on the country’s energy infrastructure. Biden condemned the attack, which aimed to disrupt access to heat and electricity for Ukrainians, and pledged to continue sending military assistance. The US has committed $61.4bn in security aid to Ukraine since Russia’s full-scale war in 2022, with additional military aid packages sent in December. With limited time before Trump’s inauguration, Biden is rushing to provide as much aid as possible to Ukraine before leaving office.
