On September 24, a San Francisco Muni train experienced chaotic jolts as the operator allegedly fell asleep, causing passengers to scream and be thrown from their seats. The train was traveling at an excessive speed of 50 mph when it exited the Sunset Tunnel, far exceeding the typical 8-10 mph. Following the incident, SFMTA confirmed operator fatigue was to blame and placed the driver on “nondriving status.” SFMTA is committed to ensuring safety and accountability after this unacceptable event.
