Kyle Harbin, who recently transitioned from a shelter to a rental apartment with 3 Birds Housing Solutions in St. John’s, received a no-fault eviction notice requiring him to vacate by the end of February 2024. Despite his efforts to maintain stability through community resources, Harbin faces challenges in finding new housing, especially as the transitional program is at capacity. Housing Minister Joedy Wall noted that evictions may occur to allow new residents in a program that operates outside the Residential Tenancies Act. Experts highlight the ongoing housing crisis in Newfoundland, with rising homelessness rates and inadequate support systems exacerbating the issue.
