A new study in the UK reveals that over half of women are unaware of the “999-55” silent lifeline for domestic abuse victims too scared to speak out, leading Women’s Aid to launch The Ignored Emergency campaign. The Independent’s Brick by Brick campaign with Refuge has raised over £500,000 to build two houses for abused women and children, surpassing the initial £300,000 target. Emma Armstrong, CEO of I Choose Freedom, shares her own experience of abuse, highlighting the emotional, physical, financial, and sexual toll it took on her.
