The Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC), a Meghalaya-based insurgent group, was banned by the government for five years due to its involvement in violent incidents and activities against India’s sovereignty. The group aimed for secession of areas in Meghalaya, extorted funds through intimidation, maintained links with other insurgent groups, and was involved in criminal cases, including explosions. The Home Ministry deemed their activities detrimental to India’s sovereignty and integrity, leading to the ban.
