Russian drone attack kills 7 in Odesa, Ukraine says

Seven individuals lost their lives when debris from a Russian drone struck an apartment block in the southern Ukrainian port city of Odesa overnight, as confirmed by Ukraine’s State Emergency Service on Saturday. Among the deceased was a 3-month-old infant.

An additional eight individuals were injured in the incident, according to authorities.

Odesa regional Governor Oleh Kiper stated that the Shahed drone was taken down by Ukrainian air defenses, resulting in the debris hitting the apartment building.

Ukraine’s Armed Forces reported that the Odesa region was targeted by eight drones, with seven being successfully intercepted by air defenses.

Overall, Ukraine’s air defenses successfully intercepted 14 out of 17 drones launched against the country, as per the armed forces.

Kharkiv regional Governor Oleh Syniehubov reported that over 20 settlements in the eastern Ukrainian province faced Russian artillery and mortar attacks, with drone strikes damaging high-rise buildings in the regional capital of Kharkiv. Fortunately, there were no casualties, but three individuals experienced acute stress reactions.

In the partially occupied Kherson region, a 53-year-old man lost his life due to Russian artillery shelling on Saturday morning, as reported by the Kherson regional prosecutor’s office.

In Russia, a drone crashed into an apartment building in St. Petersburg on Saturday morning, according to Russian state news agency RIA Novosti.

Following the explosion, six individuals received medical assistance, with reports suggesting that the apartment building was hit by a Ukrainian drone. The authenticity of this claim could not be verified by the Associated Press.

Russia’s Defense Ministry has not issued a statement regarding the incident.

In Russia’s Bryansk region, bordering Ukraine, an investigative team was attacked by a Ukrainian drone, resulting in two team members sustaining injuries and two others experiencing shock, as per the Russian Investigative Committee’s statement on Telegram.
