Global Affairs Minister Anita Anand announced that Canada will expedite the final $10 million of a $70-million aid package to support Ukraine’s natural-gas system, which has been severely damaged by Russian attacks aimed at creating a humanitarian crisis. Ukrainian Energy Minister Svitlana Grynchuk highlighted that Russia’s strikes on civilian energy infrastructure have resulted in significant disruptions, with 60% of domestic gas production and 70% of home supplies affected. The G7 nations are also coordinating aid, including emergency energy support, while Ukraine’s engineers have developed expertise in quickly repairing damaged infrastructure. Additionally, Canada is investing $14 million in a project with Ukraine to purify graphite for advanced technology applications.
