The landslide, part of a series triggered by record rainfall in Tauranga, resulted in the deaths of two individuals, believed to be a grandmother and grandson. Additionally, another landslide at Mount Maunganui left six people unaccounted for, with police fearing no survivors. A recovery operation is currently underway.
