Police reported that New Year’s celebrations across the country were largely incident-free, with 41 arrests made. In Cobb Valley, near Tākaka, approximately 80 to 100 festival-goers were evacuated from the Twisted Frequency festival due to rising river levels and flooding concerns. In Auckland, festivities were mostly peaceful, resulting in only eight arrests. Overall, the wet conditions prompted some precautionary measures, but significant issues were avoided.
