More than 400 civilians have been killed in South Kivu province in the DRC as the Rwanda-backed M23 armed group continues its offensive, consolidating control over Uvira. A peace agreement signed by the Congolese and Rwandan presidents is under threat, with Rwanda accused of supporting M23. The US calls on Rwanda to withdraw its troops, as the conflict in the mineral-rich east has displaced 200,000 civilians and created a significant humanitarian crisis. More than 100 armed groups are vying for control in the region, with M23 being the most prominent.
