Our classroom is located in an underground bunker for missile protection

In Kharkiv, Ukraine, students attend classes in underground bunkers due to ongoing Russian attacks, with lessons disrupted by air sirens and missile strikes. Teacher Tetiana and her students, many of whom have never experienced a traditional school environment, adapt to this unique setting, balancing their education with the realities of war. UNICEF is implementing catch-up programs to help children recover lost learning and return to safe, in-person education. Despite their challenging circumstances, students express a desire for normalcy and reflect on the importance of valuing life.
