This week, Ontario announced plans to permanently remove tolls from Highway 407 East, projected to save commuters approximately $7,200 annually starting June 1, 2025. The highway, which spans 151.4 kilometers and connects various regions in the Greater Toronto Area, will be toll-free for the last stretch of its provincially owned segment, following previous toll removals on Highways 412 and 418. Premier Doug Ford acknowledged the potential for future acquisition of the toll-operated western section, emphasizing the need for increased highway capacity amidst anticipated congestion.
