In Colombia’s northeast region, about 60 people, including community leader Carmelo Guerrero and seven peace deal signatories, were killed after failed peace talks with the National Liberation Army in towns near the Venezuela border. The ELN clashed with former FARC members in the Catatumbo region over control of coca plantations, prompting Colombia to demand a ceasefire and provide humanitarian aid to fleeing residents. Defense Minister Iván Velásquez planned to visit CĂşcuta, while the ELN accused ex-FARC rebels of violence and the army rescued persecuted individuals as tensions escalated.
