Perplexity AI has made a bid to ByteDance to merge with TikTok U.S. and new capital partners, potentially creating a new entity valued at over $50 billion. The proposal aims to bring more video to Perplexity and allow most of ByteDance’s investors to retain their stakes, amidst increasing interest in AI-assisted search engines and generative AI technology. President-elect Donald Trump has indicated a willingness to extend the deadline for TikTok to find a solution after he takes office, with ByteDance suggesting it will not sell TikTok U.S., making the merger bid from Perplexity AI a viable option.
