Coach Shane Flanagan has dismissed rumors of Zac Lomax being traded from St George Illawarra before the end of the season in a player swap.
This news comes as Trent Robinson confirms that the Sydney Roosters will not be pursuing the center once he is released from his contract at the end of the current season.
After weeks of agitation, Lomax’s wish for an early exit has been granted by the Dragons, with Flanagan stating, “We can’t have people who don’t want to be here.”
With approximately $1.6 million in salary cap space now available, the club is adamant about not contributing to Lomax’s pay for 2025 or 2026.
Reports suggest that the Dragons are interested in Penrith’s Sunia Turuva as a replacement for Lomax, with Melbourne’s Nelson Asofa-Solomona also a potential option for the team’s pack.
Flanagan stated, “We haven’t yet identified a specific player to target. We will assess the market and make the best decision for the club.”
Despite recent statements from the Dragons suggesting a possible mid-season player swap, Flanagan clarified, “There is no player swap happening. Zac will be with us for the rest of the year.”
Flanagan expressed frustration with the ongoing speculation, saying, “Hopefully this will be the last time we address this. This has been going on for weeks and everyone is tired of it.”
