Norway is the largest exporter of salmon globally, with both wild-caught and farmed fish. The farmed fish are raised in large cylindrical pens in open water, leading to potential ecological issues when they escape and mix with the local population. A pilot project by Eide Fjordbruck utilizes closed pen tanks to contain salmon, preventing interbreeding with wild salmon and converting waste into energy.
