After initially falling two sets behind, Medvedev rallied to take the fourth set but ultimately lost 7-5, 6-3, 4-6, 1-6, 7-5 in a nearly four-hour match. Meanwhile, third seed Alexander Zverev won in straight sets, and 16th seed Grigor Dimitrov retired due to injury, while 13th seed Ben Shelton advanced to the third round without playing.
