A $67 million project to upgrade the rail line between Mingenew and Carnamah is set to begin next year following an agreement between the State Government and Arc Infrastructure. This initiative, part of a $400 million investment in WA’s grain rail network, aims to enhance the track’s capacity for heavier trains and improve efficiency in transporting grain to Geraldton Port, benefiting local farmers. The upgrades will involve replacing timber with concrete and steel along 77km of track, increasing the axle loading from 16 to 19 tonnes and enhancing train capacity by 20%.
