Record heatwaves and storms lead to summer records in Shark Bay

The Gascoyne region experienced record-breaking temperatures this summer, with Shark Bay reaching 49.2C on January 20, marking its hottest January day in 20 years. Carnarvon also recorded its highest January temperature at 47.9C. Following a heatwave, ex-tropical Cyclone Mitchell caused significant damage to local crops, with growers estimating up to 50% crop loss. Shark Bay also saw record rainfall during the cyclone, with 103.6mm recorded on February 10.
