Mexico raids stores selling counterfeit, contraband Asian goods, pledges crackdown

Mexican authorities raided a complex of stores in downtown Mexico City selling counterfeit Chinese and Asian goods, seizing over 262,000 products, including imitations of popular brands like Marvel and Disney. The goods, from countries like China, Malaysia, and Indonesia, were destined for Mexican street vendors, not re-exported to the U.S., amid concerns of Chinese goods flooding American markets. Economy Secretary Marcelo Ebrard vowed to crackdown nationwide, encouraging local manufacturing to replace Chinese imports and investigating those involved in the contraband trade.
