Two Romanian nationals, Marius Bajenaru, 44, and Sorin-Costinel Ivan, 46, were jailed for attempting to smuggle nearly 50 migrants from the UK to France in September 2025. Bajenaru hid 17 migrants in his van and had £4,000 in cash, while Ivan transported 32 people in his trailer and had £9,950 in cash. Both men confessed to their roles, with Bajenaru receiving a 2-year and 8-month sentence and Ivan a 3-year and 4-month sentence. The National Crime Agency emphasized the dangers of people smuggling and the severe consequences for those involved.
