Giovanni Martino, a Venezuelan asylum seeker, fled poverty and lack of opportunities in his home country with his family, including two young children, to seek asylum in the US. After a harrowing journey through Mexico, including being kidnapped and held for ransom, they finally secured an asylum appointment through CBP One. However, their hopes were dashed when Trump abruptly shut down the system, leaving them stranded and vulnerable at the border, unable to return home but also unable to stay safely.
