Galina Manders, a 50-year-old landlord from Bolton, Greater Manchester, has decided to leave her rental property empty after tenants caused £60,000 in damages, with £40,000 coming from her own pocket. After moving in a new couple in 2022, they blocked her access for inspections and left the home in a state of disrepair, leading to abusive communication and a lengthy eviction process. Despite previously having minimal issues with tenants, Galina now feels landlords lack protection, especially with the new Renters’ Rights Bill. She has vowed never to rent again, preferring to cover the mortgage herself.
