L.A. County adds more than 650 acres of green space through grants

The L.A. County Regional Park and Open Space District awarded 13 grants totaling $17 million for parkland expansion, with projects including the growth of Montecito Heights’ Flat Top Park, greening of Baldwin Park, and acquisition of 456 acres in Santa Clarita. The grants will create or renovate 623 acres of new parkland and natural spaces in cities like Altadena, Artesia, and Covina, with Santa Clarita aiming to preserve 73% of green space added. Funding was distributed based on land size and project scope, with Baldwin Park, Palmdale, Sylmar, and Walnut Park receiving the largest grants of $2 million each for park development and conservation efforts.
