Key Bolsonaro ally arrested in Paraguay while fleeing to El Salvador.

A former Brazilian police chief, Silvinei Vasques, was arrested in Paraguay for identity theft after attempting to board a flight to Panama with a fake Paraguayan passport. Vasques had fled Brazil after being convicted as an accomplice in a coup attempt by ex-President Jair Bolsonaro and was sentenced to more than 24 years in prison. He was handed over to Brazilian federal police at the border crossing and is not the first official to try to escape justice in Brazil in connection with the 2023 coup attempt.
