Just Stop Oil to end disruptive protests with final demonstration date announced

Environmental campaign group Just Stop Oil announced it will cease disruptive action after a final protest in Parliament Square on 26 April, ending their direct action campaigns to stop new oil and gas drilling. The group claimed to have kept billions of barrels of oil in the ground and challenged new oil and gas licenses in court, but will now focus on advocating for their “political prisoners” and opposing anti-protest laws. Just Stop Oil’s decision comes as new legislation has made it harder to carry out disruptive protests, leading the group to shift their focus to civil resistance against government inaction on climate change.
