Iranian asset charged in plot to assassinate Trump, DOJ says

The Justice Department has thwarted an Iranian plot to kill President-elect Donald Trump, with an official from Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps directing a network of criminal associates to carry out the assassination. Two individuals recruited for the plot were also arrested for planning to kill an American journalist critical of the regime. Farhad Shakeri, a key figure in the plot, remains at large in Iran. The Iranian regime has been actively targeting Americans and their allies for attacks, including assault, kidnapping, and murder, as retaliation for the death of Qassem Soleimani in 2020.
