A high-speed train in northern India collided with a herd of wild Asiatic elephants, killing seven and injuring a calf. The train derailed, but no human casualties were reported. The incident occurred in Assam, where elephants often cross railway tracks. Despite the derailment, passengers in unaffected carriages continued their journey, while those in the derailed coaches were transferred to another train. Speeding trains hitting wild elephants is a recurring issue in the region, with at least a dozen elephant fatalities since 2020.
