Willis and Wade have confirmed they were in a romantic relationship, but they maintain that it started after Willis hired Wade in November 2021. They have denied any wrongdoing.
Lawyers for Trump and his co-defendants had indicated that Bradley would testify that Willis and Wade began their relationship before Willis hired him. This testimony would have bolstered the argument to disqualify the prosecutors and could have led to accusations that Willis and Wade lied to the judge.
However, during the hearing, Bradley stated that he could not remember when he first learned about the romantic relationship between Willis and Wade. He claimed to have only had one conversation about the relationship with Wade.
Ashleigh Merchant, a lawyer for one of Trump’s co-defendants, read text messages from Bradley suggesting that the prosecutors’ relationship started before Wade joined Willis’ team. Despite this, Bradley insisted that he was merely speculating in those texts and could not recall when the romance began.
The Trump-aligned lawyers, especially Steve Sadow, criticized Bradley during the hearing, but he stood by his testimony.
The testimony from Bradley on Tuesday was part of a contentious evidentiary hearing that began earlier in the month and included testimony from both Willis and Wade. Judge Scott McAfee has requested legal arguments on the disqualification effort to be presented this Friday, with a ruling expected shortly after.
