Canberra’s Hudson Young finishes the Raiders’ 28-12 win over the Knights with a try, but he will anxiously await the NRL’s charges after a hit on Kalyn Ponga. Coach Ricky Stuart will be pleased with the effort shown by his team in front of 22,378 at Hunter Stadium, but may need to address Young, who was put on report for a late and high hit on Ponga after the Newcastle star broke through the Canberra defense. Referee Todd Smith deemed it “totally unnecessary” and sent Young to the bin in the 25th minute. Fox League commentator Greg Alexander called it “a moment of madness.” Prop Emre Guler was also put on report for a hip-drop tackle. Ponga’s break, which led to a penalty for the Raiders due to an obstruction just before Young’s hit, was a rare moment of attacking brilliance from the Knights, who struggled for most of the night. They made several errors and completed just 70% of their sets. ABC Sport will be live blogging every round of the AFL and NRL seasons in 2024. Check out the stats in our ScoreCentre below.
