A hiker named Austin Dirks became stuck in quicksand while backpacking in Utah’s Arches National Park, prompting a rescue operation after he activated an emergency beacon. Rescuers, led by John Marshall, utilized drones and all-terrain vehicles to assist him, managing to free his leg after a couple of hours in freezing temperatures. Dirks noted that quicksand is not as perilous as portrayed in media, emphasizing that most people do not sink completely. This incident follows a similar rescue in 2014, highlighting the ongoing challenges faced by the Grand County Search and Rescue team.
