A 24-year-old Algerian prisoner was mistakenly released from HMP Wandsworth in London on October 29, just days after another prisoner, migrant sex offender Hadush Kebatu, was released in error from HMP Chelmsford. This incident prompted Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy to announce that additional checks would be implemented in UK prisons. The Metropolitan Police are currently conducting an urgent search to locate and return the Algerian man to custody. The situation is developing as further updates are awaited.
