Melanie Coulter, former executive director of the Windsor/Essex County Humane Society, has been awarded the ASPO Leadership Award for her 16 years of dedication to animal welfare and advocacy. The award recognizes her leadership, community contributions, and innovation in animal welfare, acknowledging her efforts to improve sheltering across Ontario. Coulter was unexpectedly dismissed from her position in July, leading to the appointment of Lynnette Bain as the new executive director of WECHS, which offers rescue, relief, and education services for animals in need.
