Government funding for Victoria’s Country Fire Authority (CFA) has increased for the first time in five years, rising to $361.3 million for 2024/25, despite previous estimates of $337.6 million. However, volunteer numbers have declined from 51,949 to 51,796, and the CFA recorded a $51.8 million deficit. The Labor government faces criticism for alleged funding cuts and declining volunteer support amid ongoing bushfire challenges, with over 413,000 hectares burned this summer. Emergency Services Minister Vicki Ward has accused the opposition of misinformation regarding funding and bushfire causes.
