The Indiana Hoosiers achieved their first football title with a 27-21 victory over the Miami Hurricanes, completing a historic 16-0 season under coach Curt Cignetti. Quarterback Fernando Mendoza, the first Heisman winner for Indiana, sealed the win with a critical 12-yard touchdown run late in the game. Despite Miami’s late-game surge, a key interception by quarterback Carson Beck ensured Indiana’s triumph. This championship mirrors the Hoosiers’ basketball success 50 years earlier, marking a significant achievement for a program with a challenging history.
